How To Throw Your Sister’s Bachelorette Party

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

sister sister

You’re sisters, you’re best friends, and you’re partners in crime. And now she’s decided to go off and get married, and wants YOU to plan the bachelorette party. Yikes! Take a look at some common concerns of planning your sister’s (or future sister-in-law’s) bachelorette party, and find out how to make sure her night is the best!

You don’t know her friends.

You love each other, but you have different social circles. How are you supposed to figure out who’s supposed to be at the party?

Easy. Talk to your sister. Let her know you want to invite everyone she wants at the party, and ask her to provide you a list with email addresses, addresses, and/or phone numbers depending on how you’d like to get a hold of the girls. If your sister is busy with wedding plans (or the party is a surprise), find out who her best friend is, and see if you can team up on throwing the party.

You’ve never been to a bachelorette party before.

Maybe your sister’s a bit older than you, and you haven’t had the chance to attend friends’ bachelorette parties yet. If this is the case: Take a deep breath and relax. Bachelorette parties don’t have to be like what you’ve seen on TV and in movies. Strippers and illegal activities aren’t the norm, and if you wake up in a hotel suite with a live tiger, slowly back away and GET OUT OF THERE!

Bachelorette parties are a chance to spend a night with your friends and do things you might not get to do with your future partner. Have some drinks, some girly conversation, and don’t be afraid to get a bit goofy. If the bachelorette likes being the center of attention, this party is also a great chance to go out and feel like a superstar.

There’s NO WAY you want to have penis cake or buy her lingerie.

You’re close with your sister or future sister-in-law, but not that close. Don’t fret! A bachelorette party doesn’t have to include anything that will make family members uncomfortable. However, there may be some friends that will want to bring some inappropriate gifts or bring up topics that aren’t the most fun for family members. If this is the case and you really can’t handle it, feel free to create a “Sister-Free Zone” at some point. While you’re setting up for the next event, the ladies can have a bit of time to give their more risque gifts.

Looking for a gift that’s more family-friendly? How about one of these items that she can use before and after the wedding?

Mrs. sleepset

Personalized Mrs. Sleep Set, $32.99

Custom Mrs. Necklace

Custom Mrs. Necklace, $23.99

Mrs. Date

Mrs and Wedding Date Custom Duffle, $29.99

Some fun options for a bachelorette party she’ll love:

  •  Spa Day

Focus on relaxing the bride and her friends before the big day with a luxurious trip to the spa. Add in some mimosas, nice chocolates, and good conversation for a fantastic party! Turn it into an all-day-event by changing after the spa and going out to a nice dinner or club in the evening.

  • Cooking Party

Have a chef or a talented friend teach everyone how to cook some fun dishes and then enjoy your creations with a couple bottles of wine. This is a nice inexpensive but fun way to celebrate with each other and learn something in the process!

  • Go Bowling

Many bowling alleys have “Rock and Bowl” nights where it’s perfectly acceptable to dress up in fun, bright clothes, throw on some wigs, and bowl the night away. This has become an extremely popular option for bachelorette parties!

Andy Samberg Engaged! Are You Marrying a Funny Guy?

Monday, February 25th, 2013

Andy Samberg is engaged to his girlfriend of five years, singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom. Many ladies mention “sense of humor” as an important trait in their future husband, and Joanna’s lucked out with Andy. Cute and funny, can you get any better?

If we were throwing her bachelorette party, we’d would focus on the humor aspect and go all out. The more ridiculous, the better! Want to throw your own funny bachelorette party? Take a look at these tips:

Decor:
Don’t overlook napkins and coasters–they’re prime opportunities to incorporate some funny sayings. We love these David napkins and Pick-Up Line Coasters. Use the colors of the napkins to influence the rest of your decor.

Activities:
A comedy club is a great place to let loose with the girls. Many serve food and drink, so you can make a fun night out of it. (Who knows, the single ladies may even find a funny guy of their own!) Call ahead to see if they have any special VIP tables or packages. Let them know the bachelorette’s name in advance, and the comedians may even single her out during their set!

Don’t forget to listen to some Samberg classics to and from the club. “Dick in a Box” was pretty much made for bachelorette parties!

Outfit:
Everyone will notice the bachelorette in this fun “Goodbye Singledom” tank top. Pair it with a pecker veil and a good sense of humor.

Gifts for the Bride:
Get her these gummy undies–funny and tasty!

Party Favors:
Pick out a humorous shot glass for each attendee. This is one of our faves!

What would you do for a funny bachelorette party? And how bummed are you that Andy Samberg’s taken now?

The Cast of Parks and Rec Share Their Dream Bachelorette Parties

Monday, January 21st, 2013

parks and recThe latest episode of Parks and Rec featured Leslie Knope’s bachelorette party. If you missed it let me just sum up the highlight of the evening: Babe Lincoln. Yes, she had a stripper dressed like Honest Abe. NBC had some fun with the bachelorette party theme and came up with “dream bachelorette parties” for each of the characters:

April: “We go to an abandoned warehouse and stare at it for three hours. Anyone who gets caught not staring at the warehouse has to go to an abandoned amusement park and stare at the moss-covered Ferris wheel. Everyone else gets to go to a second abandoned warehouse.”

Ann: “It starts off simple – mani-pedis and trashy magazine quizzes – then off to the bars for fancy drinks with straws. But not just any straws – crazy straws! These kinds of nights always end up with me taking care of whoever gets the drunkest, so that’s what happens next.”

Donna: “The perfect bachelorette party is broken up into three parts. Part #1: Vodka, no mixers. Mixers are for little girls. I’m a full-grown woman. Definitely the most important part of the night. Part #2: We get to clubbing. This is when I dance with the hottest guys, and the rest of the ladies fight for my scraps. This is the most important part of the night. Part #3: Me and my dudes (yes, I said “dudes”) retire to our hotel room for some after-hours fireworks.”

Now it’s your turn! Tell us about YOUR dream bachelorette party!

Miley Cyrus’ Lap Dancing Bachelorette Party

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

Nineteen-year-old Miley Cyrus is getting hitched to fiance Liam Hemsworth and talk show host Ellen took it upon herself to throw the teen a surprise bachelorette party on her show recently. During the interview a light appeared to explode on the set of the talk show and two maintenance men-turned-strippers ran out to help. They immediately started giving a shocked Miley a lap dance. Check it out for yourself!

So what do you think– would you want a lap dance at your bachelorette party? And would you ever want to receive a lap dance on national TV? Miley seemed to handle it pretty well. Perhaps it wasn’t her first lap dance?

Jennifer Aniston’s Glam Bachelorette Party

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

jen anistonJennifer Aniston’s string of unlucky love stories seem to have come to an end. Now the Hollywood A-lister is engaged to Justin Theroux. The tattooed hunk is also an actor and seems to be smitten with Jen. Although a wedding date has yet been released we have been dreaming about planning Jen’s celebrity bachelorette party. Here are a few suggestions should the starlet need some assistance from the pros at The House of Bachelorette:

1. Creating a Grand Entrance: We think Jennifer Aniston’s bachelorette party needs to be big from the get-go. And that’s why we would have guests walk the pink carpet when they arrive. The pink carpet runner is just $8.99 at The House of Bachelorette.

2. Fun and Sexy Games: With BFFs like Chelsea Handler, Jen will need to keep her party fun and light. That’s why a game like Pin the Torpedo on the Sailor is perfect for her bachelorette bash. It’s only $9.99 at THOB and will definitely create some memorable moments– not to mention some fun photos for Instagram!

3. A Quiz for Friends: Jen knows the importance of great girlfriends. And surely her gal pals like Courtney Cox know her well, but we suggest putting them to the test with a fun game like How Well Do You Know the Bride? It’s $7.99 and works for two to 12 players.

4. Stick it to the Haters: Since her 2005 divorce from Brad Pitt, Jen has had her share of haters. Plenty of people seemed to pity her or wonder if she was still in love with Brad. But now that she’s officially moved on, we think she should send a message to all of those people who doubted that she would find love again. The “I’m Getting Married Bitches” tank top speaks loud and clear!

No matter what Jen decides to do for her bachelorette party we bet it will be a night to remember!

A Magic Mike Bachelorette Party

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

magic-mikeThrongs of women poured into the movie theater this weekend to see Channing Tatum’s ripped chest in the movie Magic Mike, which apparently is loosely based on the time Channing spent working as an exotic dancer. According to Rotten Tomatoes, three out of four audience members liked the movie. And I’m guessing one out of four of those audience members were men, which to me signals that starting your bachelorette party at the movie theater for a screening of Magic Mike could be a memorable way to celebrate your “so long” to singledom.

And if you want to take the Magic Mike theme to the next level, here are some great games, decorations and supplies to help you amp up your bachelorette party:

Pin the Macho on the Man: This is the most popular game at TheHouseofBachelorette.com. You could also call it “pin the magic on the Mike” and tape a photo of Channing Tatum over this guy’s head. It’s just $7.99.

John the Inflatable Love Doll: Your guests will surely have fun coming up with some crazy photo ops with John the Inflatable Love Doll, $8.99. Make him your personal stripper mascot for the evening.

Surprise Party Gift Bag: This bag is perfect for Magic Mike party favors or prizes. The sexy, bare chested man on the cover definitely fits in with the Magic Mike party theme. Each gift bag is $3.49.

Exotic Dancer Napkins: These cute napkins feature the words “To support himself through college, Dave held a series of degrading jobs. Exotic dancer was by far the worst.” A pack of 16 is just $2.99.

Beefcake Drink Holder: Perhaps the artist used Channing Tatum’s abs as inspiration for this bottle cozy? They’ll remind guests of Magic Mike and keep the fun flowing all night long. Pick one up for $1.89.

So what do you think, are you ready to have a Magic Mike Bachelorette Party?

Bachelorette Gifts for Priscilla Chan (aka Mrs. Zuckerberg)

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

According to reports Mark Zuckerberg’s recent wedding to long-time girlfriend Priscilla Chan was so secret that guests didn’t even know they’d been invited. Fewer than 100 people showed up at the Zuckerberg/Chan affair at the couple’s Palo Alto home under the impression they were celebrating Chan’s graduation– not her wedding. Chan even is reported to have purchased her wedding dress under an alias to avoid suspicion.

Since the event came as a surprise to just about everyone, most people probably didn’t have time to buy a wedding gift for the Zuckerbergs or a bachelorette party gift for Priscilla Chan. So just in case you want to get her something– we think these gifts would be perfect:

  • Relationship Status Keychain: Mark Zuckerberg is now a billionaire and whether or not the couple signed a pre-nup doesn’t really matter. Priscilla is a part of the Facebook empire as well. Help her update her relationship status on or off Facebook with the cute Relationship Status Keychain, $16.99.keychain-relationship-status
  • Bride Rhinestone Hoodie: Few things are important enough to get Mark Zuckerberg out of his signature hoodie. Thankfully he did wear a suit for his wedding to Priscilla Chan, but we’re guessing now it’s back to the hoodie. Priscilla can embrace her husband’s laid-back style while also looking like a cute bride with the Bride Rhinestone Hoodie. It’s fully customizable and just $42.99. Choose from black or white– or if you’re a billionaire bride you may want to get both!hoody-future-mrs-white
  • Relationship Status Rhinestone Sash: Another way for Mrs. Zuckerberg to change her status is by wearing a cute Relationship Status Rhinestone Sash. While this one says engaged, it can be customized to say anything you want– including married! The sash sells for $18.99 and comes in six fun colors.sash-rhinestone-relationship-status-engaged

We wish the happy couple the best and hope that their relationship status forever says “married” on Facebook!

A High-Flying Trapeze Bachelorette Party

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

trapezeSome brides are giving new meaning to the “hangover.” A healthy and adrenaline-filled alternative to the traditional bachelorette party is having it at a trapeze class. Recently, newspapers interviewed 25-year-old bride-to-be Nicki Bonebrake who says the day after her bachelorette party she could barely get out of bed– and not because she drank too much. Her body was exhausted after learning the trapeze. “I couldn’t lift my arms. I put on deodorant and it hurt,” Bonebrake told reporters. “It was the good kind of sore.”

Bonebrake is like many impending brides, health conscious. She plays volleyball, coed flag football and attends yoga. That’s why when it came time to choose a bachelorette party activity, trapeze came out at the top of her list. It’s a great way to burn calories and build muscle tone before your big day.

Need help finding a trapeze school for your bachelorette party? Check these out:

Trapeze School, locations in New York, Washington DC, Boston, LA, and Chicago.

The Flying Trapeze School, Miami.

Trapeze Arts, Oakland, California.

Trapeze High, Escondido and Del Mar, California.

Emerald City Trapeze Arts, Seattle, Washington
